Feeling the summer heat in your skin? Or that ice cream craving you’ve been looking? How about that summer road trip your family has been planning for? Well, worry not. Here are 6 tourist hot spots in South Luzon which you definitely need to check-out this summer!


Laiya is located in the province of Batangas. A 20 kilometre stretch of white sand beach starting at San Juan and ending in Laiya. There are plenty of resorts in the vicinity to choose from and the drive there from Metro Manila roughly under 2.5 hours. It is a great place for a romantic getaway or your family and friends. Each resort offers a lot of water activities.

Just like any other places in the province, Laiya has a wide variety of resorts for all types of travelers. You’ll easily find cheap but comfortable places to stay or high-end resorts for an ideal staycation. Just a quick heads up to those who are after sunsets, don’t expect to get the full effect of it given that the place is located in the east coast.


Not everyone has heard of this place. Paglibao is located in Quezon province. You will find a great island hopping experience which you can do in just one day! Just be prepared for a long road trip as it is nearly a four-hour drive to get there from Metro Manila. Given the tiring ride, it is best recommended to take an overnight’s rest in the place.

Some notable areas to check out are the Paglibao Grande Island which is home to Borawan. It’s a beach which has a hybrid name in reference to Boracay and Palawan and is every bit just as good as both of these more famous islands. Who wouldn’t want to try the best of both worlds?

And just at the other end of the island is a short boat ride away to get to “Puting Buhangin” (which literally means white sand). From there you finish off at Dampalitan Island (which isn’t actually an island), which also has an awesome white sand beach that isn’t overrun with tourists.

Ambon Ambon Falls, Laguna Province

Okay, enough for the typical beach outing for summer. Why not try to head out and experience a waterfall adventure instead? If you’re looking for a bit of adventure without high risks, then Ambon Ambon Falls is the perfect place for you and your travel buddies. It is located in Panguil, Laguna province, and is roughly a 2.5-hour drive from Manila.

If you’re game for a little casual hike up Panguil River and while you’re there, check out the magnificence of this waterfall. There are several rapids and water crossings along the way that aren’t too difficult to cross. These really add to the adventure and make it a very memorable and enjoyable experience. Bathing in its clean water is a must for every tourist, better make sure to feel the clean and natural water of the falls.


Sorsogon is located at the southern tip of Luzon Island in the Bicol region. It is a well renowned place because of its famouse whale shark watching which can be done just off Sorsogon City itself. Aside from that, there are also a lot of notable beaches nearby. Unless you are into creating memorable road trips, it’s best to fly here via Legaspi City from Manila. This flight only takes one hour and leaves you with just under a 130km (2.5-hour drive).

It is a prime eco-tourist destination offering pristine and clean beaches, unexplored caves, numerous waterfalls, national parks, marine reserve and more. While you’re at it, try to make a detour to Mayon Volcano as well.


Calaguas is located in the province of Camarines Norte in Bicol province. A merely two hour boat ride from the mainland. This is a small island with an astonishing white sand beach, crystal-clear waters and unspoiled natural resources, a place where you have that peace of mind you’ve been yearning for and you can truly relax while enjoying the pristine beauty of the place.
Another heads up to you folks, you won’t find any major resorts here so you need to rough it by either camping or staying in a more Filipino style accommodation.


Paete is located in the province of Laguna and is known for its convenient day trip from Metro Manila which is just under a 3-hour drive from Metro Manila. An escape you’d be happy to do.

First, you get to take in Tatlong Krus which is pretty known as a religious pilgrimage site with awesome views over Laguna Bay. Yes, an aweing view which would be Instagram worthy. Afterwards, trek about halfway down the mountain to the basin of the beautiful twin waterfalls of Matabangka Falls.

From there you continue down the mountain and pass through some lovely canal lined barangays before ending up in the historic town of Paete.

There are still a lot of jaw dropping places you can explore just south of Metro Manila. But before hitting up the road for long drives, make sure that you are well prepared for it. Have enough rest and bring all road trip essentials.
